PERMINERALIZED WOOD

These petrified wood specimens from Germany have undergone permineralization, resulting in incredibly detailed preservation that gives them a weathered appearance. The presence of sparkles is attributed to the encrustation of druzy quartz on the wood.

Collected from a coal mine deposit in Zwenkau, Eastern Germany. It is Upper Eocene in age, or roughly 35 million years old. Seldom does petrified wood feature this level of preservation detail, making it unique.
